Ongoing Advocacy
Interested in advocating for the importance of
physical activity and active living? Here is a list of things you can do:
- Take a moment to review the membership information on this website and
sign on to become a CAL member or partner.
- Encourage the organization you represent to become a CAL member or partner.
- Encourage others to visit CAL’s website and consider membership.
- Spend an hour or two reviewing CAL’s Pan-Canadian
Physical Activity Strategy (PCPAS). With an increased understanding
of the issues you will be better able to advocate for change.
- Contact your local Member of Parliament . Encourage MPs to do their part
by "resolving" to
shape up your community, province or country by supporting activities that
ensure that the environments, in which we live, learn, work, commute and
play support regular physical activity. Specifically, ask them to support
one or all of the following:
- Mandatory daily physical education and opportunities for children and
youth;
- More funds for health promotion;
- Workplace policies that support physical activity;
- Access to programs and services appropriate for all citizens regardless
of socio-economic status, age, ability race or culture;
- Communications activities that remind us to be active; and
- Funds that support infrastructure from new facilities to simply keeping
sidewalks clear of snow!
